Large Format Scanning

| CTS provides Large Drawing and Document Scanning for all sizes of projects. Scanning is performed at two different levels: With single threshold settings (minimal Q/A) or with variable threshold settings (individual Q/A for each drawing or document). The "single threshold setting" (batch) approach eliminates continually resetting the scanner software controls for each scan. This saves time and, therefore, money. So, the price per scan is less. This approach is only recommended for drawings and documents that are of similar and reasonably consistent quality and type. If the quality is quite varied from drawing to drawing, the quality of the scanned image may suffer if the scanner software is not readjusted for each scan. For more varied drawings and documents our scanner operators evaluate each physical document in order to adjust the scanner for the highest possible quality. This may require the operator to reset the "threshold settings" one or more times and re-scan the drawing until the best possible image is obtained. This is a more time consuming and more expensive method than "single threshold setting" (batch) scanning. This method requires the scanner operator to set the scanner threshold settings at the best average setting for the group of drawings or documents being scanned. The best average threshold settings are determined by scanning a drawing sample of adequate size that results in the highest number of good quality scans for that sample. The scanner is then set to the best average threshold settings, a substantial quantity of drawings is scanned in "batch mode" without individual checking of the quality of each scan. This is less time consuming than the "individual Q/A" method and is, therefore, less expensive. Many of CTS' customers have, if their drawings are of reasonably consistent quality, opted for the minimal Q/A" or "unattended" method. After reviewing all the scanned images they will usually return the unacceptable scans to be re-scanned in "attended" mode with Q/A checking. This usually results in substantial savings. If, however, the quality and media types of the drawings and documents to be scanned is widely varied, "attended w/ Q/A" scanning is recommended. | |
