Description
CTS provides complete CAD Drafting and CAD conversions services primarily in AutoCAD and MicroStation for virtually all disciplines including architecture, multiple engineering disciplines, graphic arts, facilities management, mapping, etc. Methods used include scanning and screen tracing (screen digitizing), autovectorization (rarely recommended), and drafting to scale from scratch.

CAD Conversion Methods Used (AutoVectorization vs. Screen Digitizing/Tracing vs. Drafting from Scratch):
CTS converts hard copy drawings into CAD format (AutoCAD and ). Three methods can be used: 1.) Creating the CAD drawings from scratch, 2.) Scanning and screen tracing or screen digitizing, and 3.) by "autovectorization". "Autovectorization" is a software process that converts a scanned drawing image into a CAD or "Vector" file "automatically" instead of manually by a CAD operator. Although fast, this process has problems. File sizes are typically 10 to 50 times their "normal drafted sizes" and, almost always full of errors. Text is often so bad it is unrecognizable. In all of our years of experience in CAD conversion, CTS has had but a few customers who will accept "autovectorized" (without cleanup) drawings as a finished product. In the vast majority of cases, extensive "cleanup" is required to provide an acceptable CAD drawing. This extensive cleanup results in higher cost (due to the time required to identify and correct all the mistakes) than the "scan and screen trace" or "drawing to scale from scratch" methods. As a result, CAD conversions of existing drawings are virtually always completed using the scanning and screen tracing or screen digitizing method (fastest and least expensive method for producing high quality CAD files) or drawing them to scale from scratch. The resulting product is ALWAYS a high quality CAD file at a lower cost than those generated by the "autovectorization" process.
