Description and Cost Considerations
CTS provides aperture card scanning for all sizes of projects. Scanning is performed in either "attended" or "unattended" ("batch") mode. Attended mode requires the scanner operator to evaluate each aperture card drawing scan for highest possible quality. This may require the operator to reset the software "threshold settings" one or more times and re-scan the aperture card until the best possible image is obtained. This is a more time consuming and more expensive method then "unattended" scanning. "Unattended" or "Batch" scanning requires the scanner operator to set the scanner threshold settings at the best average setting for the group of cards being scanned. The best average threshold settings are determined by scanning a card sample of adequate size that results in the most good quality scans for that sample. The scanner is then set to the best average threshold settings, a substantial quantity of cards is placed in the scanner hopper, and they are then scanned in "unattended/batch" mode without individual checking of the quality of each scan. This is less time consuming than the "attended" method and is, therefore, less expensive. Many of CTS' customers have, if their cards are of reasonably consistent quality, opted for the "unattended" method. After reviewing all the scanned images they will usually return the unacceptable scans to be re-scanned in "attended" mode with QA checking. This usually results in substantial savings.   When the quality of the aperture cards vary substantially and from card to card, "attended" card scanning provides much better results.
